Hi,

Can anyone enlighten me and explain what is the process through which FreeNAS 9.2.1.x (where x is either 4, 5 or 6) refreshes it's user data from AD/Samba4 PDC?
When is the refresh running? Can it be triggered by something other that a service restart which is cumbersome?

Thanks and regards!

Well, if a new user is created and then you try to use it immediately I'm pretty sure FreeNAS will query the domain controller for the actual user info if it's not already cached. But if I'm not mistaken on every AD change the changes replicate in seconds.

If what you say it's true, then we have a bug in 9.2.1.5 at least. It does not work. I have waited for half a day without seeing any updates. If I restart the AD service, it works.

Well, the bug *may* be with your AD domain controller. If it's not replicating properly that could a non-FreeNAS problem. Unfortunately I have little experience with AD on FreeNAS since I don't use it myself. I do know I've helped people that put FreeNAS on a domain and created users that we used minutes later. That was on 9.2.0 though so it doesn't rule out FreeNAS as a cause though.

CJ, there is no issue with Samba AD replication. As soon as I create the user, it will replicate itself to the BDC and it will be visible IMMEDIATELY to the Windows(XP/7/8) clients. But not in FreeNAS.

If you create a user then reboot FreeNAS does the user become available on bootup? It should, just wondering if that actually works properly.

Yes. Of course it does. Also if I restart the AD Service on FreeNAS it will work as well. :)

Hmm.... I don't have any recommendations unfortunately. :( Put a ticket in and see what the developers say.

I will say this though. I somewhat convinced that this bug is going to be a one-off. If it was a widespread problem I'd expect many people to be complaining of this issue.

Bug #4999 posted. Although it's a clean install I will do a reinstall tomorrow and update if needed.
