Hello,

I did some searching of the forums, but came up empty handed, so my apologies if this has been suggested before.

I do understand that using torrents for file delivery has a bad reputation has a bad reputation, however, that's because of a few bad eggs in the carton. I downloaded the 9.1 BETA last night and it took nearly 45 min from one of sourceforge's mirror sites.

Were iXsystems to employ torrent technology, I'm sure that the file could be downloaded in a fraction of the time. I know that there would be plenty of open source trackers out there more than willing to host the file, and the users would be more than willing to seed after they have downloaded the file.

Thanks very much for considering this option,

I've never had it take more than 3 minutes to download for me.. /shrug.

There are some logistical problems with torrents though. For example, right now every day a new version is released. It's not feasible to make a new torrent every day.

Thanks for your response cyberjock,

May it be more feasable for the major BETA and RELEASE versions rather than the daily releases?

Eh.. maybe. I thought about trying to setup a torrent of FreeNAS 9.1 when it hits final. I have a 100Mb down/100Mb up, so I could easily be one of the first people to seed it.

Great, the torrent was just a suggestion. I'm pretty sure the slow download was a fluke. Thanks again!
