I can't find any documentation regarding the compatibility of the High Point RocketRAID 640 and TrueNAS CORE 12.0-U4.1. Everything turned up by the G-machine is years old. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Don't use a RAID controller with TrueNAS.

My impression was that I could use that old controller without the raid configuration, similar to the LSI 9211-8i

no it is still a raid controller and interferes with ZFS's ability to talk directly to the hardware. Use an HBA.

According to the datasheet, the 6xx uses a Marvell 88SE9235 controller. All Marvell controllers have poor reputations for reliability with ZFS. You're better off scrapping it and getting an inexpensive LSI in IT mode that has a proven track record.
