Hi all, after reading a bunch load of forum posts it's left me quite confused.

I'm looking for a 10GB for PCI Express x1. I believe TrueNas Core doesn't support many NICs out of the box, and so far all I can find is forum posts in the ways of Supported Hardware information.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a NIC that is 10GB for PCI Express x1 supported by TrueNas Core? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Setup
Mobo: GA-B250M-HD3
Software: TrueNas Core

See https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/10gbe-or-multi-gigabit-nic-in-pcie-3-0-x1.28487/.

These don't really exist, since PCI-E 3.0 x1 is only 8G. You could get a x4 card, and cut the end off the slot so the x4 card is only using x1 lanes, but you'll only end up with 8G throughput, and possibly crashing the card.

That STH forum post suggests an Aquantia-based 10G NIC, but beware the only driver available for TrueNAS is the developer alpha, which has been known to have unexpected behavior in some systems.

With PCIe4&5 now I am looking forward to some new NICs (and other cards like HBA's) in the years ahead that make PCIe 1x slots useful. Unfortunately these will come out at vast prices and take years to come down to "sensible" pricing.

Maybe one day

your MB has onboard vga. Video slot pci-e must be empty.
I use in my backup server network card D-link DXE-810S. All works good!
Insert this card in your video slot Pci-e
Connect twinax cable DEM-CB300S то switch Mikrotik.
