I install the program but it locks the machine when it tries to load the kernel.

I am using a Asrock B250m and the install runs but when I try to boot the system it just stops when it tries to load the kernel.

Any error message(s)?

To get help here you need to provide more info - details on MB, processor, memory, storage, boot device(s), FreeNAS version, also perhaps how image file was prepared on installation medium.

It would be helpful to know the rest of the details, like CPU model, amount of RAM and it's speed,
the install device type, and boot device type, (for the actual final install). Plus any add on cards
you have installed.

Last, in general, PC or Workstation boards are not ideal for FreeNAS. They contain un-needed I/O
like PS-2 ports, sound ports, extra video ports, lack of ECC memory support and generally poor
Ethernet chipsets. In your case though, you have an Intel Gigabit Ethernet chip, so that's good.

@Larry Schroeder
How about what version of FreeNAS you are trying to install and did you install it as UEFI or BIOS? Try the BIOS, it's likely more compatable and is your motherboard BIOS current?

P.S. Please let the cat out of the box, if it exists.

I have the exact MB for my backup FreeNAS. Did not want to boot with FN 9.10, so I tried FN 11 and it runs fine. I didn't troubleshoot it too much with 9.10 since it is only my backup machine...

If you can't use FN 11, let me know and I can dig into the BIOS settings for you.
