GPU Should I add a GPU for plex?

Hey everyone I have a question about adding a GPU. I have a AMD RYZEN 5 5600G and a QUADRO P400 V2. When I transcode the cpu usage is about the same with or without the GPU added. I'm disappointed the GPU does not show up on the dashboard.

How do I know FreeNAS is using the Quadro?

Is the GPU in the AMD that good that I don't need the Quadro?

Any way I can see the GPU in the dashboard to see how hard it's working?

As of now I have removed it. No point of having a $170 card if its not doing much better

Thanks

Plex does not bother supporting GPU's on the FreeBSD platform. Intel QuickSync is your only option, and it's generally a better option than a GPU anyways.

Thats stinks, I watched a video of a plex / truenas build and he used a AMD cpu and quadro card for transcoding. I was going to make the build with a i5 but they ran out of boards when I went in.
Do you think they will ever add the support in TrueNAS for that? for now it saved me some money. I can still play 1080p movies at 320p with no problem so im happy.

Doubtful, as Plex doesn't see the FreeBSD installed base to be large enough to be worth the time. Even without QuickSync, CPU-based transcoding for 1080p content is well within reach of a Xeon E3. GPU transcoding only starts to matter for 4k content.

I've actually been trying to figure out what a viable 1U server with QuickSync might look like. I was pondering an Intel Xeon E-2386G or E-2388G on a SuperServer SYS-110T-M which is based on the X12STH-SYS which could be outfitted as a hypervisor. Our standard design here is to add LSI RAID, which is available as an add-on-card, and some 10G ethernet. Could be interesting.
