Hi everybody!
I've had this issue transferring files from my desktop to a new freenas build. The build consists of the following:

AMD x3 720
16gigs of DDR3 1600
8x 2TB WD Red Drives
Freenas FreeNAS-8.3.0-RELEASE-p1-x64 (r12825)

It's happened 3 times so far when I try to copy large files *700gigs*, the freenas rig will freeze up about 1/3 of the way through and wont let me reset it or log back in through the web interface. I have to do a hardware reset and it is starting to concern me as far as if this rig is stable or not.

I took a picture of the monitor of the Freenas with the error and any help with trying to figure out what's going on would be most appreciated! :-D

You should be concerned.

Do you do scrubs regularly? Have you tried a RAM test? Is your hardware overheating?

I've just setup this hardware on a fresh install of freenas. I haven't scrubbed yet, but how often should I be doing that?

I looked at the cpu temps and they are holding at 40c which is well within the proper operating range.

As far as a memory test, is there a command or program I can use to test it out?

For RAM test, I recommend www.memtest.org. Scrubs should be run based on personal preference. I do 1st and 15th of every month.

Since this is a new build, my guess is something is not quite right.

Add a long smart test to all of the drives too. If you don't know how there's plenty of examples in the forums for doing the test and then looking at the results afterwards.

I just ran memtests on the ram, all came up clean. I'll setup a smart test and see what I can find from that.

I have just gotten another error which is different that the one above...

You ran 3 full passes on your RAM in that short time? Normally I start a RAM test and go to bed...

Are you using dedup or compression on the zpool?

Any reason you aren't using 8.3.1-p2?

Edit: Are you using encryption?

well I took it out of the freenas rig and hooked it in a benchmarking rig. I have ram coming out my wazoo so I just popped in a different set of 16gigs and started up again. I only did one pass on the memory but all came up clean.

I'm not using dedup or compression on it zpool and I went ahead and updated the firmware to 8.3.1-p2 just for good measure. Also, I'm not using encryption.

What I did was take out one of the cheap pci-e sata cards. Since it was just a sata card and not a raid card, I figured it would be ok to use. I took that out, and things started to became stable. I wanted to avoid having to use a raid card. I guess IBM M1015 here I come...

Thank you very much for you help cyberjock. Sorry to be just another noob .
