FreeNAS 11 - FC target is not working

Hi,

I just upgraded from 9.10.2 U2 to FreeNAS 11 nightlies, and my datastores at VMware environment don't see Freenas LUNs. I was using FC with tunables before to provide FC target for my VMware ESXi hosts.

What's wrong with FreeNAS 11 nightlies? It doesn't support as FC target anymore?

I reverted back to 9.10.2-U2 since i had work to do at my lab. But the error at FreeNAS console was: target arrived, target left immediately every time i booted to FreeNAS 11 nightlies.

Does VMware report anything relevant in logs? Can't it be that upgrade just changed number of the logical unit, that made VMware think it is a snapshot rather then an original volume? Could you compare `camcontrol devlist` output and /etc/ctl.conf content in both cases?

I will try upgrading again once i have time for that, and will troubleshoot if i experience an issue. The thing is, there is a post that indicates there is no support for FC target at Freenas 10. So i just wonder for Freenas 11 that it is supported or not?

FC Target would be great in Version 11 since many are using and will continue to use FC Target since hardware investments have alreday been made.

Not a freebsd expert by any means, but I ran into a similar issue with Linux and SCST (not sure if SCST is what FreeNAS uses)... when it loads the qlogic driver make sure qlini_mode is disabled to prevent this behavior (again, assuming it's the same behavior I was having in linux after a driver upgrade):

In Linux you set this in /etc/modprobe.conf: (ymmv on freebsd)
options qla2xxx qlini_mode=disabled

FC in FreeNAS 9.3 and 9.10 was a hack at best. FreeNAS doesn't officially support FC targets as it's a feature reserved for TrueNAS.

Can one purchase the TrueNas Operating System since most of use do not need the hardware.
