My main TrueNAS server is running TrueNAS CORE 12.0-U8.1, in wanting to update to v13.0 I was setting up another test box with12.0-U8.1 which I want to install a few jails and the run the update to see how (if) the jails are move over.

On my test box running v12.0-U8.1 when I try to install the Plex plugin I get Install Error: 12.3-RELEASE was not found!, can anyone tell me how to get past this?

  1. Don't use Plugins.* Use script "installers" or maintain your own manually created jail
  2. FreeBSD 12.3 is EOL. Use 12.4-RELEASE on TrueNAS Core 12.0, or 13.2-RELEASE on TrueNAS Core 13.0

* Plugins are deprecated.

@winnielinnie Can you send me a link to the 12.4-RELEASE ISO?

Per my original post I'm testing updating from 12.0-U8.1 to TrueNAS Core 13.0 so I'm trying to get a test machine running with v12.

You don't download any ISOs from a website.

Creating a new jail will prompt you with a release version (in which you'd select 12.4 or 13.2, depending on your version of TrueNAS Core.)

This will automatically fetch the needed release if you don't already have it under pool/iocage/releases

You can also fetch any release yourself with the command iocage fetch and selecting the proper version when prompted.

@winnielinnie Creating a new jail ends up with 12.4-RELEASE-p5.

Installing the Plex Media Server plugin gives me the following:

The only directory under /iocage/releases is 12.4-RELEASE

fetch -f 12.3RELEASE give me No such file or directory

I'm trying to run this version to test my main setup that I'm eventually going to update to 13.0

This is the version of TrueNAS I am trying to run.

FreeBSD 12.3-RELEASE is EOL.

With TrueNAS Core: don't use "Plugins". Create your own jails.

For TrueNAS Core 12.x systems, create (or upgrade to) Basejails based on FreeBSD 12.4-RELEASE

For TrueNAS Core 13.x systems, create (or upgrade to) Basejails based on FreeBSD 13.2-RELEASE

Any guide on setting all of this up for the uninitiated? I have been using the plugins since for ever, but am a bit lost when it comes to managing my own jail.

Forum member @victort has gathered a list of scripts available for the installation of many of the common applications in jails:
