Hi, first of all, i'm sorry if this has already been answered. I searched the forum and google, but i didn't find anything about these drives.
So, the question.. Does WD30EZRX suffer from the same problem as the other Green drives?
Do i need to change the idle settings with WDIDLE? Or can i just use them as they are, out of the box?

I found som info on google that i should not use WDIDLE on these drives, they will brake. is that true?

i have read a lot of how-to's written by you, and even the one where you discuss green vs red, and why green needs the wdidle tool.
but according to other sources, this drive in particular does not need this fix.
see the link in the post above.

i know it's a Green drive, but some sources say that this drive in particular does not need wdidle, and may even be damaged.

Well, you got one guy saying it could damage them, and then you've got me.

Pick the one you want to trust and go with it. It's your hardware and you've got no reason I can think of to trust one of us over the other. He also did other things like rebooting his server(which he HAD to do for obvious reasons) so the correlation may or may not be accurate. I'll let you pick for yourself...

Edit: And for the record, his post is from 2011.. and since I've heard a whole zero other people make the complaint, I tend to think he's making incorrect correlations between things. But what do I know.. I just have 24 WD Greens in my server...

don't take me wrong now. i do trust you. i've only been on this forum for one and a half month, and i'ts obvious even to me that you're good at what you're doing.
what i wanted to confirm was that my drive in particular needed the wdidle, and now i think i'll use it.

but something that also made me concerned was that when i searched for wdidle3.exe on google, the fisrt link that came up was this: http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=609&sid=113
and there it says "This utility is designed to upgrade the firmware of the following hard drives: WD1000FYPS-01ZKB0, WD7500AYPS-01ZKB0, WD7501AYPS-01ZKB0."
and no other link on the google search links to wdc.com

Yep if forum profiles are working - I've linked it as well..

You can find WDIDLE on Hiren's cd or download and create you own.. I keep a small DOS usb around for loading / upgrading stuff..

I've got a 64GB USB stick that has a menu option of choices.. for me it's got multiple ISOs(Win 7, 8, 8.1, linux, FreeNAS, and... DOS). Works great!

Yeah. Get many requests to install fresh Windows versions for people, so I just use my ISO to install Windows, then use their key as appropriate.

DOS is great because the partition is FAT32, so I just throw the BIOS/firmware/whatever on the USB stick and go to work. When I want to add a program I just throw the ISO on the USB stick and that's it!

Sorry for getting off-topic.
