We got a TrueNAS Mini X diskless last year and bought 5 WD Gold 4TB drives to populate it. We set up a RAID z2 Pool with all of those drives in it. The pool is currently in a DEGRADED status. 1 of the drives (ada4) is showing 72 READ errors and has a status of FAULTED. S.M.A.R.T. test results for ada4 are showing FAILED for the last 6 entries. The drive is less than a year old, but I'm assuming it is bad and needs to be replaced?
I have another TrueNAS system that is a refurbed server with used drives that I haven't had any errors on for years. So this will be the first problem with drive failure I have faced. I just want to make sure there is nothing else I can do to test/repair the drive before replacement. And to make sure the replacement procedure would be to OFFLINE the drive, swap it with the new then REPLACE it? Or would I just ONLINE it? There are no free/spare drives and this is in a production environment so I want to make sure the replacement goes as smooth as possible. Any advice/input would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!
