Hi all,

What are the naming conventions in FreeBSD?

I generally use lowercase for pool names and datasets. I want to create a dataset for Time Machine backups. What would be the best way to name this dataset?

time-machine
timemachine
time_machine
timeMachine

Thanks,

FS

There is no single convention in FreeBSD. Pick what you like best.

I tend to go all lower case for datasets, because "command line" and initial capital letter for the SMB shares, because that's the common spelling for nouns in German.

E.g. dataset: medien. Share: Medien.

Agree with Patrick, there's no real naming convention. The one thing I'd add is to avoid spaces in names--although they're valid characters, they make things a lot more complicated at the command line, should you need to use it.
