Running now. Is it OK to have a large file transfer running while I run the smartctl command? I am refreshing a backup just in case.

No, you have to go in and get them.
In order to copy/paste easily, I suggest you ssh in - then run
Code:
smartctl -a /dev/ada0
and you'll be able to copy and paste the output in code tags here.

Unfortunately only one thing to do: replace the drive.

Well, 12 hours before this last test an extended test failed at 30% complete because of a read failure. Line 197 shows 1 current pending sector, line 200 shows an Error Rate of 1.

Time to replace this drive I would say. Your raidZ2 is keeping your pool alive right now.

Why does FreeNAS say my pool is Healthy?
And for further info the CMR drives are preferable over the SMR?

FreeNAS hasn't written any data to the part of the disk and as such haven't seen the damage.
The notice you got was from SMART

That's a BIG yes - SMR has nothing to do in a NAS (mine was replaced by WD because of them messing up)

OK. Thanks. New disk on order. I think the one that failed is a Western Digital. The failed drive is about 8 years old. Trying to decide on whether or not to go with a 4TB.

Two of the others are also that same vintage. I did not get an email from FreeNAS when the error occurred. Just the red alert on the dashboard. Guess I need to investigate running more diagnostics and fix my email issues.

A suggestion would be to run scheduled SMART tests - for me it gives a little piece of mind knowing the disks are tested on a fixed schedule. Doing short tests on a daily basis and long once a month.

And those test involve setting up scripts?

No, you configure them through the GUI. No scripts needed.
OK. I will look into it. Don't want my data going kaput.
