I currently have a Intel Celeron CPU G1840 @ 2.80GHz in my motherboard and I'm looking to upgrade to an i7 or i5 (Board supports both) currently with the celeron only 8 Gb of my 16 Gb of ram registers. Being new to TrueNAS my question is will there be any issues just upgrading CPU with the Truenas boot software? I'm assuming that it should be a straight up one for one exchange and shouldn't effect anything. I appreciate any advice or knowledge sharing.

Cheers

Just make sure you backup your config file (see manual - system - general section) before you upgrade your CPU. But your boot device should be OK. If not (unlikely but still), you always can reinstall TrueNAS and upload your config file and be back in busines in twenty minutes or so.
