CPU graph spike

I recently noticed that my CPU graph under reporting looks awfully "spiky" and I was wondering if this is normal behavior. I understand that its hard to answer this question without knowing more about my configuration and use but I don't have any jails or virtual machines setup if that helps. I am however, collecting metrics from FreeNAS to an Influx database and using Grafana to visualize so this could be one of the reasons?

If I zoom out, the graph will look normal.

And by my configuration I meant exactly how I use my system, the services running etc. I can of course provide any information necessary.

No I guess it is not normal.
If your system is on idle, you would have around 1-5% of load, but not such spikes.
Have a look if your disks are also in use during these times.

Is influx poking your FreeNAS every sixty seconds? as well as the disks the network connection will probably show these regular spikes.

Yes, just about that often. I will run a test by stopping influx for a while and see if it makes a difference.
