Can I convert from Raid 5 to Raid 6 without risking losing my data?

if so how hard would it be?

No, sir, ZFS doesn't allow for changing the topology. To create a RAIDZ2 array, you will need to backup your data, destroy the existing RAIDZ1 array, create the new RAIDZ2 array, and then restore your data from backup.

I'm assuming that by 'Raid 5' you mean RAIDZ1 and by 'Raid 6' you mean RAIDZ2: ZFS doesn't support RAID5 or RAID6.

Good luck!
