comreset failed (errno=-32) on TrueNAS Scale installation

I am trying to install TrueNAS Scale 22.12.3.3 on a Supermicro X10DRU-i+ server plugging into the internal usb port on the motherboard or external usb.
When I boot up from usb I get the comreset failed (errno=-32) message and the install fails.
I have tried another usb stick using both Rufus and Venoy and still end up with the same result.

Any ideas or suggestion will be much appreicated.

Those errors are clearly related to SATA disks, hence the ataN device names. Disconnect all non-boot media and tell us the details of your system in terms of storage.

I removed all 12 SAS disks leaving behind just the Sata SSD on which I previously installed Truenas Core and the bootable USB. Still the same results.

SAS disks? The errors are for (S)ATA disks. And you're getting the same errors, for multiple disks, even though there are no such disks attached?

After waiting for a bit longer I was able to continue with the installation and it worked fine. I have no idea what was wrong as I am new to this.

Currently I have a single SFF-8643 to SFF-8643 cable connected to the AOC-S3008L-L8e HBA card. Would connecting another SFF-8643 cable increase the bandwidth for data? I have x5 HGST HUS724040ALS640 and x7 Seagate ST3400755SS SAS drives and a BPN-SAS3-826EL1 backplane.

Conceptually yes. In practice, this can be flakier in some cases and you're not limited as you are now. You have 48 Gb/s (4x 12 Gb/s per lane), full duplex to the expander. With a great deal of optimism, your disks will never exceed 3 Gb/s half-duplex and you have 12 of them, so 36 Gb/s.

Thanks so much for the quick response.

The other question I have is on failover. With a single HBA and with a single SAS expander such as the BPN-SAS3-826EL1, there is no way I can achieve failover. Correct? If I connect another SFF-8643 to the HBA it's only going to increase bandwidth but not give any redundancy? Does this make sense?

Pretty much, though I maintain that redundancy through multipath is a waste of time designed to suck money out of enterprise customers who don't know better. The set of scenarios that benefit is very narrow.
