Hi I have 2 drives in my custom nas and it seems all is well and have had no issues.

Is there a way to ensure that the main drive is in fact mirroring on to the second?

I can see 2 drives in the machine and also can only see 2TB of space which i assume makes sense as I have 2x2TB drives which i remember selecting mirroring on when I installed them.

  1. Shut down FreeNAS.
  2. Disconnect power or data cable from one drive.
  3. Boot FreeNAS.
  4. Ignore messages about volume being degraded and attempt to read the data.
  5. Repeat 1-4 with 2nd drive.

I am wondering if there is an easier way like mounting the drives in shell and just using ls on each one.

If zpool status says everything's ok, everything is probably ok. (Same goes for the GUI)

Anything else is unnecessarily risky.

If you have another system that's running a compatible version of ZFS, sure, but that seems like the least convenient option.

And I actually agree with @Ericloewe. The steps I proposed are if you're of the "I don't trust the GUI, I must test it myself" mindset.
