Hello everyone and thank you for contributing to this great community. I just discovered this great distro and I want to build my first NAS. I have a decent Linux background, so installing and configuring won't be a problem, but I've some doubts on hardware.
I already have an old piece of hardware which is atom based so my configuration is:
To build my NAS i'm planning to buy:
  • 2x WD Red 3 TB NAS
  • 2GB ddr2 ram(to replace the current one)
  • 1 raid pci card
Do you think that this configuration is correct to start using FreeNAS?
Which raid pci card should I buy?
Thank you in advance!

no. just no.

please do yourself a favour, read the manual and the pinned posts.

you need at least 8gb ecc ram and a faster cpu.

Just because this has already been explained PERFECTLY few hours ago from @DrKK, I'll quote what he said to another user...
[...]under the conditions you have set up, you are destined for failure, no matter what we do. FreeNAS was not designed to play nice with your setup. In fact, it stands a good chance of harming your data, and plaguing you with issues that cannot be resolved.

FreeNAS is intended for purpose-built, server grade, hardware. It does not act nice with random laptops, or $50 motherboards that are "awesome elite low power rigs", or any of the other crap we hear about.

believe it or not, we're trying to help you.
