Hey all!

Quick question... my host name is still at default freenas.local... I have a domain name that points to the server and a trusted signed certificate. I use https. I tried changing my host name to something else, and I couldn't access the page via my domain any longer. I can still access it via the lan ip

So under network > global configuration, I need to set host name to the same as the other one I set.the name server.. should be my default gateway basically. Why does all this work by default without setting this? Thanks!

Example:
My Router is 10.20.10.1 (This also does my DHCP, DNS, Internet Gateway, etc)
My FreeNAS Box is called "ASC-FN01" and say my network is "Network.MyDomain.com"
So I set this:
"Hostname" = ASC-FN01
"Domain" = Network.MyDomain.com
"IPv4 Default Gateway" = 10.20.10.1 (<-- I want my router to handle Internet Traffic)
"Nameserver 1" = 10.20.10.1 (<-- I want my router which does DNS to handle resolving internal hostnames)
"Nameserver 2" = Not Set, but some would set it to something like Google DNS (8.8.8.8)

Now on my router, I have a MAC Address Reservation for "ASC-FN01" which ensures that it will always get the Static IP I want it to have. Say the IP I want it to have is 10.20.10.13 (which is an IP that is NOT in the DHCP Scope)

So, from there any machine on my internal network can get to the FreeNAS Server via:
ASC-FNo1
ASC-FNo1.Network.MyDomain.com
10.20.10.13

This was very helpful. Thanks so much.

Network.domain.com...
An example would be... www.testing.com

OR

testing.com

Right ?
