Can't add disk to existing pool

Hi all,

I built a new TrueNas Scale server with what was supposed to be 8 data disks. I just realized that one of the power connectors meant that I had a dead drive. I've now fixed, and have all 8 disks, but I can't seem to figure out how to add the 8th disk to my vdev. Is there a how-to on this?

Thanks! Will.

Really? I can't change the number of disks in a vdev? Is my only option to start over?

No, you can't (other than for mirrors), and you've never been able to with ZFS. Work is ongoing to add this feature, but it's been "about a year out" for the last five or so years.
Is my only option to start over?
Afraid so.

Ugg. I'd assumed that there was the same flexibility with that aspect of TrueNas as was with Windows Storage Spaces. Appreciate the fast council. Thanks!

ZFS was developed in the early 2000s for the absolute high-end enterprise market (think 6 or 7 digit price storage systems). There you would never add a single drive. You would add 50 drives or more at a time (sometimes also fewer, but you get the idea).

That was and still is the core market for ZFS. We as private users get to benefit from the reliability, but there is a price to pay.

If you are interested in more details, please have a look at the recommended readings in my signature.
