Can't access SMB share after upgrade to 13.0-u3.1

I have upgraded from 12 to 13 and I can no longer access my SMB share. I'm getting a permission error. I've tried a few things based on advice given for other threads but can't get it resolved.

It's a home NAS setup so I'm just using the root user to access the share. If I turn guest access on I can get onto the share but only with read access and this would also not be a best case even if I set it up for write access.

Is there any details that I can post that will help diagnose what the problem might be?

That's not supported and was disabled.

Make yourself a real user account, set some permissions, and it'll be just fine. There was an announcement somewhere that I cannot find about this.

I know that you are not alone with this approach. In my view it is a pretty dangerous thing to do (perhaps a bit like a gun with the safety off all the time). root should only ever be used when absolutely necessary (and yes, I am guilty of not always following my own advice).

You could create a new user in TrueNAS for sharing stuff that isn't the root account. If you have your wheel group as an owner of all your stuff, just add your new user to wheel and then use this new one instead of root.

This is infuriating. I upgraded and no access to 2 of 3 shares, and only read to 1 for some reason. I created a new user and added it to the Wheel group, tried to gradually make sure permissions were all open for full access, I now can't even access the 1 share I did have. This is insane that they would drop this on users, and make it so difficult. Does no one have a help guide on how to set this up? I have now have no access to all of my photos, music, backups etc. Reddit was no help either.
