Hi all.
I have just built my own Freenas box to store all of my documents, pictures and music etc.
I got box all up and running only to find my NAS box is not visible on my network in both my desktop and laptop.
I can access box through Web Interface but that's it.
If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.
My OS is Windows 10 Pro.

What are the server specs? FreeNAS version?

Assume you've setup your shares and the SMB service is running, right?

I can access box through Web Interface but that's it.

You mean open the GUI?

My OS is Windows 10 Pro.

If shares are configured and SMB running, have you tried using the server's IP?

Thanks for your reply.
Freenas 11.1, yes I can open GUI, Shares are configured and SMB is running. I set it up as per the instructions. I have tried using servers ip address still nothing. On reading other like forums it seems to be a windows 10 problem because everything is fine in windows 7. I'm not prepared to go back to that for the sake of some extra storage.

Go on network and sharing center of win10, there check if teh network is set to home, work or private. Of it on public it will not show other pc on the same net. Also there is one option to enable shares by password instead of managed by home group.

So, it is working.

Misunderstood when you said:

Well, not a Windows user, sorry can't help.

I had the same issue, as many of us have. I believe this is due to one of the creators updates from Windows 10 (version 1709). Where they deprecated SMB v1. It is possible to enable this again so you can see your FreeNAS server in the network browser but that is not recommended. The "fix" is to just add network shares.

If you find a solution to make FreeNAS server findable again in the network browser I would love to read it.
