Sounds like abnormal behaviour. Do you even get an error message? I'm noticing that the minidlna plugin suffers from a lot of bugs.

Plugins are expected te work for ZFS file systems, not for UFS. But even with ZFS I get this same error.

I have the same problem but got around it by clicking on Jails --> dlna_1, then go to the bottom icons, click on Stop and Start. Media list updated. I would really like to see dlna to update (or scan) the list after a new file is uploaded after some minutes as configured. Then I don't have to stop and start the service.

I thought I have the DLNA set up correctly, my TV can see and play the video files. Only problem is I cannot start/stop DLNA from the GUI plugins and the auto rescan feature doesn't work. Not sure what you mean by rechecking the media directory path? Another question is: how do I find out the dlna user? I ran the ps -ef command but did not see the user. Pardon my limited UNIX knowledge!
