Does an APC AP9620 Smartslot Card need to be installed into an APC SMT2200IC Smart-UPS to be able to interface it with FreeNAS?

Thanks in advance for your help.

A quick search makes me think these support either interface: USB or network card.

Ok been doing some more digging. For my needs it looks like the APC SMX1500RMI2U UPS would be more suitable.
If I understand the documentation correctly over the USB connector I should be able use the usbhid-ups driver or if I install the AP9630 UPS Network Management Card 2, I should be able to use the snmp-ups privProtocol=AES driver.

Does anyone know which is the better supported ups driver assuming the above assumptions are correct?

My experience is that at least since FreeNAS 11.3 the NUT package and the FreeBSD kernel seem to disagree on which API to use for the usbhid device. There is an older deprecated one which NUT uses and the current one in FreeBSD. Tried two different models of USB controlled UPS and none worked. I'm going SNMP.

Helpful to know. Thinking more along the lines that if the first option worked it would save me having to buy a network management card.

Have you posted a bug report about this discrepancy? FreeNAS really ought to provide full UPS support, IMHO.

Not yet. Tomorrow, probably. Yet I still want to have a network managed unit because reasons. It's just the smart thing to do, IMHO. All this proprietary USB stuff when there's SNMP ...

Agreed. I use an APC SMC2200RM UPS w/ APC9617 network card in my shop to power my main servers. My CyberPower UPS is next to my desk here in my office, where it's 'good enough' to do what I need it to do.

Thanks again for your suggestions.
Went with the APC SMX1500RMI2U UPS and also ordered the AP9630 UPS Network Management Card 2.

Recently moved and we have had 8 blackouts since we arrived; four of them in one day! Nasty!!!
Last place only one blackout in 5 years.
