Looking for another user, or more using the Seagate NAS drives that can help me look into a potential issue. Specifically I am using the 4TB NAS drives part #ST4000VN000 due to 6TB premium price at the time. Where I need the assistance is I only have these drives in a single system running 9.3 Stable and no matter how I set the APM settings in FreeNAS the drives never change. So in pin pointing where the issue lies, with the drives or in the code falls upon me unfortunately. I checked with Seagate and being a large corporation as they are they assured me their drives conform and sent me a whitepaper with all smartctl features they support and some commands to execute them. Those very commands is where I see my current APM settings don't match the APM level I set in freenas to allow them to spin down after awhile. Mine are never spinning down at night and the smartctl command line entered commands reflect this as being accurate. I opened a bug but instead got personal opinions then finally a response that no help can be provided, check with seagate. Well again I checked with seagate, per docs and their statements the smartctls should work, but alas they do not. Wondering if anyone else has same situation where same 4TB seagate NAS drives are set in freenas to anything but what the drives status return as, 192 (Intermediate level without standby). My drives remain at this state no matter what I have it set to in freenas Storage Tab -> Select ZFS Volume, Click "View Disks" double click or select drive and click edit, Advanced Power Management : what does level equal ?? Does the gui configured level match the cli smartctl output level ??? Can you change it ?? While you shouldn't have to reboot in order to put changes into affect, I have tried that also.
Any help or information would be greatly appreciated,
Dave
