Ok, I'm running ESXi 5.0 update 1

That said, my realtek 8168 is enabled and currently shared on the host and the freenas box. Promiscuous mode is enabled. I have my IP address assigned in the gui as 192.168.2.25 and mask of 255.255.255.0. I have set the DNSThe IP address shows 0.0.0.0 when I look at the "network" for the adapter.

Any thoughts?

I will add, when I enable plugs this forces my shares to be removed from auto detection by other computers (CFS and AFP shares).

You're in the same boat as someone else in the forum. It's not particularly recommended that you use ESXi because it adds another layer of complexity to maintaining and troubleshooting the system. Your problem may not be FreeNAS at all but be ESXi based :(.

Can you post the output of # ifconfig?

I run esxi as well- maybe I can make a suggestion or two.

I don't know if you've done this yet or not but..
In your router make sure that your freenas box has a static ip address. you can find the mac address of your freenas vm if you look in the vm settings.

It no longer has the IP of 0.0.0.0 and yes, have always had a static IP assigned to the freenas box. I still loose service with the plugins so right now they are disabled. I will see if I can enable them and pull the config as the user above suggested. Have you run plugins inside esxi? What NIC do you use? I'm considering getting an intel CT 1Gb to see if that helps.

Are you suggesting this is a problem with the network card? I am also having this same issue, as soon as I enable Plugins and turn on DLNA plugin my AFP shares dissappear off the network. I'm using the Realtek 8111E that is integrated on my motherboard.

I put an Intel 1Gb PCIe NIC in the machine and am now using VMXNET 3 virtial NIC and driver (with patched 8.3 freenas - kernel extension supporting the adapter) and no longer have the same issues. Not sure which of the things fixed it as I made those changes all for other reasons and decided to go back and test plugins again which I found worked now.
